Petition for Reconsideration and Appeals Process

The IUSG election process ensures fairness and accountability through a structured complaints and appeals procedure. Any election member who has been negatively impacted by a ruling of a three-justice panel may petition to the entire Supreme Court for reconsideration. Once the Court accepts the petition, the accused party must resubmit their reply brief, using the rely brief resubmission form below, within 72 hours of the Court's request.

Reply brief resubmisisons must include detailed evidence, adhere to privacy laws, and follow the guidelines outlined in the IUSG bylaws.

Once submitted, the Court investigates, deliberates privately, and issues a ruling, which is made public on the IUSG website.

Petition for Reconsideration: Reply Brief Resubmission

Pursuant to R.B. § 3-9-5.2, any election member who has been negatively impacted by a ruling of a three-justice panel may petition to the entire Supreme Court for reconsideration.

Upon acceptance of a petition, the Court requests the accused party to resubmit a reply brief that responds to the initial complaint. This reply brief may either be the same as the first one or a revised version, as long as it is pursuant to R.B. § 3-9-6.

As a reminder, here are the requirements of a reply brief, as identified in R.B. § 3-9-6:

(1) be submitted no later than 48 hours after the request by the court;

(2) must include a response to the allegation(s) made in the complaint and any exhibits of evidence that the accused party considers necessary or relevant to support their position; and

(3) may not introduce any new allegations unless in the event of suspected candidate dishonesty, as defined in R.B. § 3-8-3, on the part of the complainant.

The Court may choose to either keep the decision of the panel the same, increase the number of points, or reduce the number of points up to zero.
