Leo W. Cavinder was elected Speaker by Congress on October 6, 2025. A Representative of the College of Arts & Sciences, Cavinder has served in Congress since July 2023. He has previously served as Committee Chair of the Committee on Student Rights & Concerns, Clerk of Congress, and as Recorder of Congress. Cavinder is a third-year student from La Porte, Indiana, studying Political Science and Education Policy.
In addition to his work in IUSG, Cavinder serves in various roles around IU Bloomington. He is an editor for the Undergraduate Law Journal (ULJIU) at IU, a student member of the Academic Fairness Committee (AFC), a Student Associate for the Center for Evaluation and Education Policy (CEEP), a Research Assistant in the School of Education, and the Director of Academics for the Pre-Law Association (PLA) at IU.
