In January 2021, the student body amended the IUSG Constitution creating new seats in Congress to represent historically underrepresented or disadvantaged communities. Qualifying registered student organizations wishing to send a representative to Congress may petition for entry prior to the start of any legislative session (fall, spring, or summer) and must re-petition yearly prior to the annual congressional elections in the fall semester.
To qualify, an organization must be nonpartisan and represent a historically and currently underrepresented ethnicity, culture, nationality, gender, sexuality, disability, or religion. More information is available in the bylaws, Title 2 Article 6: Multicultural Organization Admittance, and Title 3 Article 1: Election Commission.
Readmittance to Congress
Any registered student organization that had been admitted to the outgoing Congress for the previous term may re-petition for the incoming term. A member of the organization may do so by submitting a written statement to the Election Commission stating that the organization desires to be admitted to the incoming Congress. The message can be sent to email@example.com and must be submitted prior to the fall general election for Congress.
First Time admittance to Congress
A registered student organization wishing to petition for admittance to Congress for the first time must submit the petition form no later than the time Congress convenes for the session (fall, spring, or summer).
